L’épaisseur de laine va de 0 (dentelle) à 7 (jumbo) sur l’échelle du Craft Yarn Council. Le numéro indique l’épaisseur de la laine, le crochet ou l’aiguille à prendre, et à peu près combien de mailles tiennent dans quatre pouces. Les numéros bas sont plus fins ; les hauts, plus épais.
