A very tall stitch with two yarn overs to start. UK double treble.
Also written: trc, triple crochet
How to work it
Yarn over twice, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (four loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through two loops at a time, three times, until one loop remains. Written dtr (double treble) in UK terms.
US and UK
This stitch is also called Double treble (UK). Always check which term set a pattern uses before you start, since the same name can mean a different stitch across the two.
Common confusions
Is treble crochet the same as triple crochet?
Yes, in US patterns. Treble and triple are two names for the same stitch, worked with two yarn overs, and some designers use them interchangeably. It is not the same as a UK treble, which is the US double crochet.
How tall should the turning chain be?
Four chains for a treble, one more than a double crochet needs. Too short and the row edge pulls in; too tall and it flares with a visible gap. If your edges are wavy or tight on a treble row, the turning chain height is the first thing to check.
